There is a baseline level of data skills that everyone in an organisation, irrespective of job title, requires to have in order to contribute to and affect the organisation's collection and use of data to ultimately succeed in an environment where data is becoming a critical part of daily work.
Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at anyone who currently uses data in their day-to-day activity, and wants to learn to get their work done faster.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Identify and resolve problems within your business;
- Prepare data for analysis;
- Generate and explain descriptive statistics to find anomalies in data;
- Run time-series analysis to identify trends in data;
- Interpret and apply the resolutions to your initial business problems, and communicate the analysis results.
Tools used in the course:
Unless you intend to thoroughly explore analytics and data science, Microsoft’s spreadsheet program Excel will be sufficient to manage your data, clean data, perform analyses, model and create simple visualisations.
Why use Excel? Excel allows you to perform calculations, create pivot tables and visualisations, and automate tasks using a macro programming language: Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
Excel Power Query is a free add-on created for Excel. It was designed to pull data from a source, modify it and provide the revised version.
Why use Power Query? With Power Query, you can import data from different sources, e.g., from another workbook, a text file, folder or SharePoint; connect to various databases; pull data from the Web or your Outlook account; and transform & clean your data.
Power Query is available in all Excel 2016 or later Excel versions, as well as Microsoft Office 365 subscription plans.
